Do What's Right In The Lord's Sight

Sep 7, 2023

We've started a series on the Armor of God, last week was on the belt of Truth, tonight's lesson was on the Breastplate of Righteousness.

When you study the medieval times, different battles in history, or even look at the wars we are fighting in the world today, you will see that every knight and soldier wear an important piece of armor - the breastplate. Protecting the vital organs. No soldier would go into battle without their breastplate.

As a soldier's breastplate protects their chest from an enemy attack, so does righteous living guards a believer's life against the assaults of the devil. The devil seeks to put a stop to righteous living. That's why God has instructed us in the Bible and its tonight's memory verse:

"Put on the breastplate of righteousness" Ephesians 6:14

Righteousness means doing what is right in the Lord's sight. This means you put on the breastplate of righteousness, by telling the truth, respecting your parents, and trusting in the Lord. This is doing what is right in the Lord's sight.

When you decide to do what is right in the Lord's sight, He will protect your heart. Lies, unforgiveness, worries, anger is some of the arrows the devil uses against you. When we choose to tell the truth instead of lie, you protect your heart. When you choose to forgive instead of fighting back and getting angry, you protect your heart. When you choose to trust God instead of worry, you protect your heart.

"Do what is right and good in the Lord's sight, so all will go well with you." Deuteronomy 6:18

Putting on the breastplate of righteousness, by doing what is right in the Lord's sight, brings you peace and gives you freedom.

In our Bible lesson we spoke about David and his opportunity to stop King Saul from chasing him. You can find the passage in the Old Testament book, 1 Samuel, chapter 24. David chose to do what is right in the Lord's sight by not harming King Saul and all went well with him. David even became the next king. We encourage you to go find the story in the Bible.

Remember to pray and armor up for each day! And may the Breastplate of Righteousness remind us to what is right in the Lord's sight.
